Ancient legends abound with references to the "Scaly Ones," the reptilian masters of the steaming marshes, but the Deathless Empire has never had any extensive contact with them. Resembling a hulking cross between a Human and a crocodile, Lizard men possess powerful strength, and band together in large tribes ruthlessly controlled by War Chiefs, who are in turn advised by Shamans. Cunning hunters, Lizard Men brutally attack any who enter their territory, and show an extreme hatred for all the Children of the World. Bands of Lizard men always make their homes near ruins of profound antiquity, and some Loremasters have speculated that the Scaly Ones are the degenerate survivors of an ancient civilization, long since destroyed. Rumors persist that the Centaurs fought a great war against these intelligent reptilians long before the rising of the Dragon, making them one of the oldest known creatures in all of Aerynth. Others believe that the Lizard men, like the Drakes, are somehow connected to the Dragon. Unfortunately, the hostility of the Lizard men and the harsh environment they dwell in have kept researchers from uncovering any conclusive evidence about the origins of these ferocious creatures.
