None can say whether the Skrell are a race of Men whose greed and vile habits have degenerated them into manlike rats, or a cunning, gigantic breed of rats who have learned to walk, speak, and use tools in imitation of Men. My Master leans toward the latter view, although the debates among the Loremasters are still quite heated. Skrell live underground in filth and offal, desecrating the ruins and crypts which lie beneath our teeming cities. Cunning in the extreme, Skrell are masters of stealth and ambush. Skrell use the foulness of their lairs as a defense. Not only will their foes be loathe to chase Skrell into their noisome lairs, the Skrell use weapons so befouled with germs that a single strike poisons an enemy, laying them low with fever or plague.
