Most undead are created by the intervention of a spirit from the Dark or the refusal of a vengeful soul to depart the World. In the case of the Vampyre, however, a demented soul willingly enters the undead state, pledging service to the powers of the Dark in exchange for immortality and power. Vampyres are cunning beings, and revel in complicated stratagems. Vampyres fight with the strength of ten half-giants, and are rumored to have many other fearsome powers. Folklore abounds with such rumors, but neither I or my Master have yet been able to examine one of these hideous creatures in captivity. Until that time comes, any discussion of the Vampyre's powers would be an exercise in empty conjecture. Some Vampyres dwell among men, hiding their true nature, while others make palaces of graveyards and ancient tombs, raising dead armies. Each Vampyre sees himself as the rightful ruler of the dead world to come - whenever Vampyres associate, their squabbles quickly turn into bitter feuds.
