Greatest and mightiest of the beasts of the wild, griffons combine the features of both lion and hawk. Blessed with the keen eyes of eagles, the speed of falcons, the strength of lions and talons that can rend steel, these noble beasts are among the most regal and deadly predators on the face of Aerynth. Griffons have always had an affinity with the Firstborn, and early in the Days of Twilight our people learned to tame and train these mighty beasts. Sillestor the Great took the Silver Griffon as the emblem of his house, and Griffons have served as the emblem of the Deathless Empire ever since. Many secrets of the Griffon tamers of old have, alas, been lost: gone are the days when the squadrons Wind Knights took wing, mounted on their griffon steeds, to rain death upon the enemies of our glorious empire. Still, many Elvish enclaves still use griffons as watchbeasts and pets, and perhaps in later days the Wind Knights shall ride again...
